Benefits of Raw Almond Butter

My favorite way of breaking my fast is with dates and raw almond butter. Actually this is my "breakfast" everyday! 

I love the richness of the dates balanced out by the earthy flavor of the almonds. Plus, not only is the almond butter great for heart health because of lipid lowering properties, and rich in antioxidants, but it is also known to slow down the rise of blood sugar as well as the spike of insulin all while making you feel fuller longer. 

A study in the British Journal of Nutrition showed significant improvement in the "choices" people made in their diet after introducing almonds as part of their daily food intake. Interestingly, this happened without any dietary counseling or suggestions on what they "should" eat. As shown in the table below, the subjects of the study unconsciously met most of dietary recommendation by this simple change.
