Not even an hour away from downtown Montréal by car, there are a lot of breathtaking views to see in the summer time in Quebec. We don't usually stay in Montréal in the summer, but this year we decided since we're here, to visit the areas we usually go to in the winter for skiing. My friend Jamila Refky told me that most skiing resorts are beautiful in the summer and she was right! We were definitely blown away by the scenery and beautiful weather and not to mention the lakes. I am and always will be a beach person but there's something about the stillness of a lake that is very serene.

There are two types of tourist areas in these locations, "secluded" and "in the heart of the hustle and bustle". Most of these locations have both.

Mont-Tremblant - one of the most popular ski areas in Quebec

Hotels & activities to recommend:

Fairmont Mont-Tremblant: It is luxurious but with "character" and when I say character I mean not modern at all. However, not cabin style like you see in most hotels in the areas and it's also "ski in and ski out" which means it's closest to the slopes. I would recommend requesting a mountain view room for the best experience.

Ermitage du Lac: Cabin style suites with kitchenettes and lots of space. However, breakfast buffet is minimal.

Being in any hotel in "the village" you will be in the middle of the action, shops and cafes.

Also, there are a lot of activities to book in advance in the winter time. We tried "nordic experience" (booked through Tremblant activity center) snowmobiling which was an amazing experience where we actually went across a frozen lake. There are also great skiing lessons for beginners. All can be booked through the hotel concierge or online.

Mont Saint- Sauveur - Another popular skiing areas  (we only visited in the summer)

Hotels and activities to recommend:

Manoir Saint-Sauveur: My friend, Jamila Refky, recommended this hotel and I'm glad she did. This hotel is not secluded you will be near an outlet, restaurants and even a water park is walking distance (which is interestingly in the same area of the ski slopes in the winter!). A great place for a family.

If you are coming in the winter I would imagine it would be best to get a room in the main building. Since we are here in the summer we got a suite on the buildings nearby "avoriaz" to be exact and we love the spacious cabin style with kitchenette. However, there is no room service in these suites but they close at 9 pm anyway and the weather is beautiful to walk to restaurants nearby. There's also a wonderful spa in the hotel as well as a indoor/outdoor pool.

Estérel Resort: This resort is the most modern resort that we've seen in all of our stay in Quebec that is "lake front" on the water at Lac Dupuis. There might be others (if you know any let me know!) There's also a pool and some water activities and restaurants of the resort but it is definitely secluded (20 minutes from saint-sauveur) However, the view is worth it. I would recommend this place if you like the full hotel amenities but want to relax in a quiet area.

There are many lakes in the area. The only trick is to find one with public access and parking. We found one in called Lac Raymond which had a couple of picnic tables and public "beach".
